Essential Mindsets to Become a Successful Entrepreneur

If being your own boss instantly sends mental images of yourself lounging in pajamas during a busy work week, think again.

Self employment is not as easy as it seems.

Being successful at your own business takes more than just financial capability.  It also takes the right frame of mind or attitude.

Do you think you have what it takes to be your own boss?  If you can say those powerful statements below without blinking an eye then you’re ready.

  1. I am self disciplined.
Self discipline is being in control of yourself.  Sounds simple doesn’t it? But since you are going to be your own boss, it’s easy to overlook your own shortcomings and find excuses for your failures. How can you be in charge of your own business if you’re not fully in charge of yourself?
  2. I know how to manage my time.
It’s tempting to think that since you’re not punching your timecard anymore, you have all the time in the world to do whatever you want. Indeed, you may find more time for yourself if you run your own business. But time can only be your friend if you know how to manage it. Time management lets you use your time effectively and allows you to calculate how much your man-hours are worth.
  3. I am always positive.
Being positive is different from staying positive. Most entrepreneurs start out bright and cheery.  But as they face the challenges of the daily business grind, their positive outlook easily wears out.  Even simple problems like a tardy staff erode one’s upbeat attitude. Stay positive by being around optimistic people.  Build a dynamic atmosphere within your business.
  4. I am focused.
Everyday, entrepreneurs are barraged with all sorts of information coming from all forms of media. While being updated on the latest events, news, or products may be helpful to your business, it may lead you to lose focus and be sidetracked. Learn how to rise above all that noise by filtering the good from the bad while keeping your business vision intact.
  5. I have specific goals.
More often than not, when you ask people what they want in life, they reply, “I want to be rich”.  Successful people on the other hand respond in detail, “I want a rest house in Hawaii.” Having a clear picture of what you want makes it easier for you to achieve it. In the same way, tangible business goals such as “To reach 40% increase from last year’s revenue,” sounds more achievable than, “To earn my ROI”.
  6. I have a deadline for success.
‘What’ is equally important as ‘when.’  If you want to reach 20% increase in revenue, you have to know when you want it. Having a definite timeline pushes you to act fast and use your time-bound resources.
  7. I am assertive.
Success thrives on the principle of momentum.  If you’ve already accomplished triumphs in your business it doesn’t mean you can already put your feet up. Success attracts more success only if you’re always on your toes. When you see an opportunity, grab it with BOTH hands.
  8. I think ahead.
Innovate.  Revolutionize.  Adapt.  In business, as well as in life, successful people are always ahead of their time. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur you should have the foresight to always do better and achieve more.  Be among the movers and shakers.

If you find these essentials are already part of your mindset, then you can start setting your heart out to a successful entrepreneurship.
