You’ve worked hard to get to where you are now. You’ve toiled for years – started at the bottom, learned your way around and worked your way up. You’ve had hits and misses, your own set of mistakes and wrong decisions. The climb was hard, yes, but now, you’re at the top.

Professionally, you’ve proven yourself and met your goals. Financially, you’re all set. You’re comfortable with lots to spend, share and keep. The people who matter most to you are all living the good life. It’s a breathtaking view. You can see everything clearly around you. What you say matters, and what you want happens. You’re there. You have arrived.

What do you do now? What’s next?

When the thrill, excitement and challenge is gone and the comfort has worn out, and your daily existence no longer challenges you, you may be asking yourself: “What else is there to do?”

Keep in mind that it is your own brand of attitude and spirit that drove you to where you are now. It is this very same attitude and spirit that will help you accept and enjoy your success, and allow you to live a life that is truly rewarding. How?

KEEP LEARNING. You can either be a master of what you already know, or start with a new skill. Learning new things will keep you motivated and excited. Learn new skills, adopt new ideas, be open to new possibilities. Read up, attend seminars, meet new people. Hone your craft further or take up a new one. You got to this point because you had a hunger for learning. Stay hungry, keep learning.

REINVENT YOURSELF. You have already proven yourself and what you can do, a lot of times. Now that that’s done and over with, ask yourself: “What do I really want to do?” Is there a pipe dream still floating in your head? That “something else” you wanted to do instead everytime you almost gave up in the past? How about doing something new? Put on a new hat, create a new “identity”. Break out of the mold of who you have been all these years.

PAY IT FORWARD. Now is the time to “return what is due”. A part of your success, you owe to people who worked as hard as you, perhaps even harder; people under you who propelled your way up. Acknowledge them and show your gratitude by helping them to get to the same spot. Pick one to mentor and guide. This will give you new challenges, seen through a new set of eyes. A new perspective, a different route to success. Seeing another person through to the top, to eventually sit next to you, is a different kind of high.

SHARE YOUR WEALTH. Literally. Pick a charity or foundation you can support. Choose one that is relevant to you – either one that is aligned to your personal business goals, or one that is a personal advocacy of yours: science and health, environment, human rights and welfare. Or support one that will help fulfill a lifelong aspiration. Contribute, and their success will also be yours.

INSPIRE OTHERS. Your story is the stuff of which legends are made. Talk about it. How hard your journey was and what it took to get there. Share so others may learn. Talk about the hits and misses and the wrong turns you made. Tell them the of the kind of attitude that works, and the kind of spirit that sustains a truly successful person. Inspire others do accomplish more than you have.

REWARD YOURSELF. Live. Because now, you can, and now, there’s no stopping you. You have long been working for other people – your company, your colleagues, your family. Now is the time to do something for yourself. You have the means, the power, and the ability to do so. This time, do what you really want. Live your life the way you have always wanted it to be.
