Come Lunch With Me
Encouraging Senior Management to Better Understand Their Staff at a Grass Root Level
The Pledge:
- Once a week I will arrange to have lunch with a random member of staff
- During this lunch, I will actively encourage them to be as open and honest as possible
- I will actively listen to them without interruption
- I will ask open-ended questions to find out as much as I can without leading them to the answer I wish they would give
- I will reward their participation by buying the lunch
- I will promise to take away what they have said and seriously consider any proposals they have made
- I vow to provide them with a status update on my decision and timescales should it be implemented
- I will always ensure that they are recognised and rewarded appropriately for their ideas no matter whether they are implemented or not
- I will always explain fully why I have chosen not to implement an idea, and explain if this will never happen or just can’t happen right now/soon
- I commit to making time for these lunches for the next 6 months and will report back the results.
